The Orchard Ridge Community Club (ORCC) and the Orchard Ridge Elementary (ORE) Parent Teachers Organization (PTO) worked jointly in 2001 and 2002 to solve traffic problems around ORE. Through the efforts of both organizations a crossing guard was added to the intersection of Flad Avenue and Gilbert Road in December 2001. ORCC and ORE-PTO approached the City of Madison and asked the city to fund traffic calming on Gilbert Road near ORE. The Gilbert Road project was ranked as the fourth project but only three projects were funded for this year.
